Warm, cozy atmosphere. Roomy and comfortable. Great bed. Furnished and decorated with traditional peices. Close location to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations.
The location in the old citadel was excellent and interesting.
There are two roads leading into the citadel and one was closed. It was very difficult to find the other road and the walk from outside the citadel was very steep and hot.
Really lovely traditional Turkish home in the old district of Ankara. Within 5 minutes walk of the Anadolu Anatolian Civilisations museum. Breakfast is not buffet but served to you whenever you are ready in the morning - bread, variety of spreads, cold meat slices, tomato with coffee/tea...typical Turkish breakfast (though I don´t recall any fruit served). Reception gave me a bottle of water when my throat was sore and allowed me to use their laptop when I needed access to internet. These small touches were much appreciated. There is wifi in room and satellite tv with english channels. There is a small convenience store and restaurant/cafe next door to hotel (though I did not go to them during my visit).
This is not a problem as such but just be aware this hotel is not within walking distance to any big supermarket or metro station or public transport. To access the city centre district of Kizilay and further districts will require a short (approx 10 TL) taxi ride to Kizilay and then you can access metro/buses to other areas from there.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating during our stay.
Not much english language tv, but it was no drama
What a charming place! A small, old Ottoman House inside the Ankara castle. My friends and I were totally captivated. Rooms were large and comfortable. Everything was very clean and the staff was the best. Breakfast garden was a cool and colorful patio at the entry. It is a great alternative to noisy, crowded city hotels; very close to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations and the attractive yet neglected Castle. Great restaurants nearby. Areal treat for people who love authentic, old-fashioned atmosphere. Highly recommended.
The staff was very friendly and the room was beautiful, as was the whole building, including a lovely courtyard to have breakfast in. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We were particularly appreciative that they helped us call a taxi at 2 am. The hotel is in a fabulous location; it was truly unique to have a home away from home right on the Citadel of Ankara - and in the middle of what really felt like a centuries old village, not a modern city.
At times, it was a little hard to communicate with the staff given their limited English. We always managed to figure out what we needed to, but it took some time. Also, we were glad we had asked in plenty of time about how to pay the bill, because we could not use a credit card.
Excellent ambience for a traditional turkish home.
The hotel is classic and beautiful. The host is gentle and nice, and we have our first Turkish coffee in Angora house, is an very good experience!
Summary: Superb hospitality, a warm and personable environment. Sets the standard by which all future hotel stays will be compared. I didn’t know what a five star rating could be until Andora’s House. It’s not about expensive toiletries or beautifully decorated rooms (though there are plenty of both to compete with the best Sheratons or Hiltons). It’s about the splendid service... Or rather hospitality. I felt like I was a beloved family member from moment I arrived to the moment I left. Levent, the live-in manager, would greet me at every opportunity to ensure that everything was fine, whether I needed anything. As a lone (and maybe reclusive) traveller who was only interested in staying to sleep and shower, Levent’s generous hospitality broke down my rigidity and made me feel at home in the truest sense. I appreciated his keeping me company while I tried to orient myself, offering me tea and helpful information. He has a patient gentleness about him, answering my various questions. Soon, I found myself having engaging conversations with not only Levent but a number of fellow guests about their travels and more. Beyond the staff (which was the highlight), I valued the slow pace and quiet setting of this place. An intimate six rooms in a classical house with modern amenities (I.E., bathroom, bedroom, satellite tv), all set behind the walls of a historical castle. A large, five-star hotel could offer a better breakfast, toiletries, beds, etc. but it’s the warmth and personal connection to Andora House that will always prefer. They set the standard for service by which all future accommodations will be compared.
A small breakfast that was not quite enough for me. The location behind the old castle walls added an excellent old world experience but might be inconvenient to access for some, given that it's at the top of a hill.
The sympathy of the staff, the location of the hotel within the citadel walls, the old room's furniture... Did I mention the sympathy of the staff ?
A bit hard to find, and not close very to the city center.... Well, it's the castle citadel, what can you expect ?
Staff were extreemly helpful and informative. Location is fantastic right in the middle of the Citadel and within easy walking distance of many of the Ankara atractions. Room was spacious and clean.
A small hotel with very friendly people. It is an old house wonderfully reconstructed.
The hotel management were warm and friendly and very helpful. The actual hotel is an old ottoman era house that has been beautifully renovated.
Beautifully restored in Ottoman style inside old city. Large nicely furnished room and good bathroom. Handy to museum.
Our host Levent and his staff made us feel very comfortable and offered advice on travel and dining. The building itself, an historic house, was beautifully furnished and maintained with a lovely courtyard. Breakfast was very good. The location was ideal on a picturesque street in the old town near the citadel, the museum and shopping. And Levent made sure the car was always parked in a safe place.
